Career Assessments for High School Students
Are you a high school student who feels undecided and stressed out about your future? Then consider taking a career assessment through My Choice College Prep. Our career assessments measure your aptitudes and strengths and provide career options that align with your personality and work style. Here are some reasons to consider taking a career assessment:
All college applications ask students to indicate their major of choice. Although you can apply as undecided, you may still have to decide on a school within the university, which means you need to have some idea of your future career.
Many students create their college lists based on their intended major. Without a major in mind, you may find yourself having trouble narrowing down your list.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, a third of students change majors. What if you are already enrolled at a university and then realize your intended major isn’t offered?
Certain majors, like Engineering, require you to take courses in your field starting Freshman year.
Motivation! I’ve seen unmotivated students suddenly become very interested in college once they get their list of career options.
I don’t want students to think that they have to know what they want to study when they apply to college. It’s okay to be undecided. You can apply to a liberal arts college or you can try different classes and jobs during your first two years of college to get a better idea of what you may like. Uncertainty is okay.
If you do decide to take a career assessment, keep in mind, that your results are not set in stone. You do not have to follow the suggestions.
Overall, the number one reason I recommend a career assessment is to alleviate stressed-out students and parents and to motivate the unmotivated. When students and parents see specific options laid out before them, the college application process suddenly seems a lot less stressful and instead, becomes a lot more exciting!
