When can I start?

Most students enroll in the comprehensive package during their junior years. Others wait until the start of senior year, while some begin planning as early as freshman year. The earlier, the better!

I have no idea what I want to study. How can you help me?

It’s okay to be undecided when applying to college. In fact, many students do not decide on a major until their junior year of college. With so many majors and career choices, it can be beneficial to explore your options early on. We provide career assessments which can help direct you towards a potential career or major.

I don’t think I can afford anything outside my state school. What options do I have?

Most colleges are “need blind” and do not consider family income when reviewing your applications.  You can also apply for financial aid by filling out the FAFSA form as early as possible. I can help you find the colleges that provide the most aid and I can guide you in your scholarship search. Before dismissing a university, search for their net price calculator to determine your expected family contribution (what you would actually pay).

Why are colleges becoming more selective?

Prior to the internet and the common app, most students only applied to a few universities. Now that it has become easier to send multiple applications, students are applying to more colleges. Universities are also marketing heavily towards a wider variety of students. When more students apply to a university, the university becomes more selective. My Choice College Prep can help make your application stand out.

Should I take the SAT or the ACT?

They are not that different, however many students score significantly higher on one than the other. You should take both and see which test you are more comfortable with and then focus on improving your score on that particular test type.

Why do I need to take a Math assessment before starting SAT or ACT prep?

Some students have underlying Math weaknesses which may hinder their ability to apply test prep strategies. For these students, I recommend Math tutoring before beginning any test prep program.

How often do we need to meet in person?

The number of meetings will vary depending on the student and the service that he/she has signed up for. I also conduct meetings virtually, using facetime and skype. In addition, I have “virtual office hours” during the months of August-December. During these hours, I am available for chat on google hangouts between the hours of 8-9 pm.
