College Visits in the Time of Coronavirus
With the coronavirus limiting our movement and campuses closing nationwide, many have had to postpone or cancel college visits. I know this is particularly stressful for seniors who will soon be graduating and choosing which college to attend. If you were able to visit before applying, that’s great, but for many who planned on visiting after receiving acceptances, they will have to decide without ever having stepped foot on the campus they plan on attending. For those seniors and for the juniors who are interested in exploring college options, I present you with the next best thing to actually going on a campus tour: virtual college visits. Many university websites are now posting virtual tours on their websites due to the current situation. So make sure the first source you refer to for your research is the university’s webpage. To further help, I have listed some great websites and resources that can help you learn more about different colleges.
You Visit: https://www.youvisit.com/https://www.campusreel.org/
This site is great as it allows you to virtually tour different campuses. You can even see inside the different buildings and explore as if you were there. It is also very informative!
Campus Reel: https://www.campusreel.org/
Videos created by students for prospective students. You can get a great “insider” feel for a college through this site.
College Life Presents: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQRLb-_sXhwYIE8SFEjeiBw
Not the most informative, but fun to watch regardless, as it tends to focus on the party scenes.
YouUniversity TV: https://www.youniversitytv.com/
Great college videos, but the site and the videos feel a bit outdated.
In addition, don’t forget to check out a college’s social media, as sometimes that’s the best way to get a real feel for school culture.
